How to Find Your North Star in Life

Finding Your North Star

I am a firm believer in synchronicity to guide you on your path & throughout life, just as much as I believe that the sky is blue - there are no coincidences, only synchronicities.

Last week I was given guidance by way of the North Star, which is literally what it means - to guide & give direction! I was asked to design a range of jewellery inspired by the North Star and hey presto, my inner compass started whirling and I was called to write, share and create around the idea of the North Star.

What exactly is the North Star?

The North Star is exactly that, a star (it’s actually 3 stars) called Polaris (A, B & C). It serves as an unwavering guide in the vast expanse of the night sky, a constant reference point that has navigated travellers and explorers for centuries. It is located very close to the celestial North Pole. Due to its alignment with the Earth's axis, Polaris appears relatively stationary in the night sky, making it a dependable navigational reference point. This stability is a result of the Earth's axial tilt and rotation.

Throughout history, the North Star has been a crucial aid in navigation. Sailors, travellers, and explorers have used its fixed position in the northern sky to determine direction. By locating Polaris, one can establish a north-south line, helping to navigate and orient oneself, especially in situations where other landmarks may be unavailable.

Now, this obviously isn’t a blog about science (always) but about spirituality and life. For more cool science & facts about this cluster of stars a quick google search will tell you everything you need to know.

What does North Star mean spiritually?

The spiritual meaning of the North Star varies based on tradition and culture. Through my own contemplation and meditation I have uncovered the meaning to be aligned with direction and guidance, finding your way to freedom, spiritual awakening and connection to the divine, giving inspiration, achieving goals as well a sense of stability and consistency on your journey.

When I began my research I recognised a huge resonance within me, this is how I know how powerful this is - do you feel it too?

How can the North Star help me?

I see the North Star as a reference point for life. What if you had ‘something’ to guide you when you felt lost and hold stability in uncertain times? In the realm of personal development and coaching, the North Star symbolises a profound sense of direction and purpose from your innermost self. It is the guiding light that helps you align with your truest values, passions, and aspirations.

Just as sailors used the North Star to chart their course on the open sea, a personal North Star empowers you to make decisions, set goals, and navigate life's journey with clarity and confidence. It becomes your anchor amidst life's challenges, providing a constant reference that shapes your path towards fulfilment and holistic success.

How do I find my North Star?

Whatever you have faced or are facing in life, finding your North Star, or your guiding light, can be a powerful way to regain a sense of direction and purpose. Here are some steps to help you discover your North Star and start falling in love with life again:

  • Reflect on Your Values and Passions: Take some time for self-reflection. Get yourself into an inspiring space with lush coffee and cosy vibes and whip out your journal. Begin to identify your core values and the activities or pursuits that genuinely bring you joy and fulfilment. What are the things that make you feel alive and aligned with your authentic self?

  • Write a Vision for Your Life: It doesn’t have to be a perfect document that you expect your life to look like but having a vision in a few paragraphs focussing on how you want to FEEL and what you wish to experience will act as your guide when it comes to making decisions and becoming the person you want to be.

  • Set Meaningful Goals: From this vision, define short-term and long-term goals that resonate with your values and passions. Your goals should be challenging yet achievable, providing a sense of purpose and motivation. Breaking them down into smaller, manageable steps can make them more attainable but again, don’t get too focussed on making them perfect. Life often has a different plan so we must set goals that excite us, but that we’re not so attached to.

  • Shadow Work: In order to be sure you’re setting goals and aligning with your TRUE values, you must do your shadow work. (Learn more about the shadow here.) You must begin to make the unconscious conscious otherwise you will keep creating a life based on your unconscious conditionings, beliefs and fears of the ego.

  • Explore New Opportunities: Be open to new experiences and opportunities. Sometimes, trying something different can lead to unexpected joys and discoveries - it also helps massively with your shadow work as you will be sent mini challenges to overcome. You cannot create anything new in your life by doing the same old thing with a different dress on.

  • Connect with Supportive People: Surround yourself with a supportive network of friends, family, or a mentor who can offer encouragement and guidance. Sharing your journey can provide valuable insights and emotional support. A small warning to only share where you feel comfortable that you’re being supported in alignment with your Higher Self, not with people who still see you as the person you always have been. This is where having a life coach comes in, working with someone who has totally got your back, will keep you in alignment with your North Star as you create a life you love waking up to - I have just designed a mini coaching package to help you find your North Star, scroll down for the info.

  • Mindfulness and Self-Care: Take care of your mental and physical well-being. Practices such as mindfulness, meditation, and self-care activities can help you stay grounded, reduce stress, and foster stability and equanimity on your journey. In meditation your North Star can act as a guide to the True Self as well, as you meditate on either you will notice profound shifts spiritually.

Your life is a unique journey, no one else has lived it before and no one has your unique perspective. Only you can determine your North Star, but if you’re wandering around life with no true direction then you will end up lost and in a sense of limbo.

I have a powerful North Star Discovery Kit that includes a workbook, video and meditation if you’d like to delve into this deeper. Download through the link below!
