Activate the Power Within
The power of the human spirit is the same as the power of universal spirit. It’s within all of us, it governs the seasons, the lunar cycles and tides. It tells the birds how to fly and our bodies how to digest the food we eat. One power to govern all things.
As humans, we have masks hiding our power, in Jungian psychology this is known as the ego. The part of our psyche that is trying to protect us from danger. Our ego forms as we’re growing up to keep us safe and loved by our immediate caregivers and while our ego has our best interest at heart, it isn’t built to help us thrive. It’s designed to keep us safe and small, to fit in and be comfortable.
In order to thrive in this lifetime we must connect to something deeper, the power that connects us to the Universe, to divinity. How do we do that? I hear you ask…
How to Active Your Inner Power
There are numerous ways but in my personal experience, the best way is through meditation.
Different meditation techniques connect us to this power in different ways. For instance, Vipassana helps us to understand who we are in truth and a form of meditation called active imagination (Carl Jung’s secret weapon) helps us communicate to that power and the unconscious forces within us that are creating our life.
Active imagination is a meditation technique that taps into your subconscious mind so you can communicate with parts of your psyche that you don’t tap into every day. It can also help you communicate with the superconscious mind, a level of awareness that transcends reality to give your direction, answers and wisdom to help you on your life journey.
Some examples of active imagination are to communicate with archetypes within the collective and personal unconscious such as the divine mother and father, the wise woman and the anima/animus (the divine feminine and masculine within each human, no matter of gender.)
As humans we all have access to creative power but we hardly scratch the surface of our potential when we’re just focusing on the conscious mind. You may understand that you’re creating your reality and your internal world is creating your external world but are you aware that your mind is 95% unconscious? So as Jung famously said, until you make the unconscious conscious it will direct your life and you will call it fate.
With active imagination we’re working with the subconscious mind and connecting to the power deep within us to integrate it into our conscious reality.
‘How is this going to help me find my way in life?’
Okay, I hear you. For anyone who is facing a dark night of the soul or spiritual awakening, maybe you’ve recently experienced an adversity in your life that has challenged your sense of self and are looking for direction and guidance. It’s imperative that you begin to connect to the power within yourself and begin to make the unconscious conscious if you don’t want to end up repeating this cycle.
Active imagination, meditation and deep self-discovery will help you on this path. You can begin this journey on your own by using guided meditations and active imaginations but your protective ego eventually will get in your way and hijak your mind to keep you ‘comfortable’.
To truly dip into the subconscious mind and work with your power, you will need to work with someone trained to help you go beyond your conscious reality.
