Stop Letting What Other’s Think Hold You Back
The fear of what others think is one of the main reasons people hold themselves back in life. Think of a goal you have been pursuing but haven’t quite got there yet, perhaps you’re scared to take a particular action or even the first steps… if you worked the reason why backwards I bet somewhere in there would be ‘but what if I am judged,’ ‘what if I am told I am wrong & look stupid,’ ‘what if they don’t like me?’
This blog post has been inspired by my first comment and a few dislikes I have received on my YouTube content. The comment said ‘you’re teaching witchcraft’ so not exactly nasty but it sparked an awareness in me of perhaps where I hold myself back and err on the side of caution with my content because I am afraid of what others think.
This fear is in all of us humans and is a part of the psyche’s survival mechanism known as the ego. One of the main fears of the ego is that it will be ‘left out in the cold’ and back when this survival mechanism was its most useful (prehistoric times, it helped us evolve) if we were left out in the cold we would have been eaten.
Fast forward a few thousand years, our equivalent fear of being eaten is that we won’t be deemed worthy if we don’t look, think, and act in an acceptable way to the rest of society. How many times as a kid did you want the same trainers as your best mate? And do you buy things today because an influencer told you to? How about validation from the internet, how often do you check the likes on your latest Instagram post?
Even deeper than caring what society thinks or our connections online, what about our families and those closest to us. If we were to really pursue our passions and stand out from the crowd, what would they think of us? Would the family dynamics change? Maybe it’s safer to stay small and keep pleasing those around me, I don’t want to die alone after all… (this can be an actual fear of the ego mind, even if you’re not aware of it right now)
It takes some awareness and training to change this habit in our minds because a lot of these are SUBCONSCIOUS but giving a damn what other people think is holding you back so here are some tips on how to take your power back.
Do Your Shadow Work
The is the biggest way to take your power back is to understand that your mind is projecting parts of your self that you have unconsciously rejected onto other people. When you begin to become aware of your shadow self you quickly begin to see that what others think is really a projection of your own mind and… what you unconsciously believe about yourself.
Using the ‘witchcraft’ comment for instance, this highlighted to me that somewhere I actually am afraid that people believe what I am sharing is ‘wrong’ and perhaps I am teaching ‘witchcraft’ which has a negative association within society thanks to any woman with her own mind being burned at the stake all those years ago…
While I consciously and intellectually know that I am sharing truth and helping hundreds of people. Now aware of this I can take it back, work through it and integrate it. So what if people think I am a bit witchy? Witches are cool.
Also, what they say about you is a projection of what they believe about themselves on an unconscious level as well.
Shadow work has changed the way I view the world and if you ask anyone who has been on a deep spiritual journey they will vouch for the power of shadow work as well, I am sure. To learn more about shadow work and how you can begin to take your power back by integrating these unconscious beliefs you may have about yourself (that are holding you back) book in a discovery call with me and join me for the adventure of a lifetime through private coaching.
Align With A Higher Purpose
When you are aligned with your highest soul purpose, you will do anything to achieve a certain goal or dream, no matter what others think of you. Others opinions will seem much less important when you know what you are doing is helping yourself reach your dream and helping so many others along the way.
I Am You and You Are Me
We are all one. We are all connected. When we zoom out and look at the bigger picture of the Universe and understanding a little about energy and quantum physics, my understanding is we are all manifestations of consciousness living infinite realities.
So, perhaps when you are judging someone else for following their dreams we remember this. You are really only judging yourself and if we are all one, could we be a little kinder? You are only hurting yourself.
I challenge you to stop holding yourself back by judging yourself, judging others and caring what other people think of you. These thoughts and beliefs don’t serve you or your higher reason for being on this planet so become aware and let them go. You will be challenged, people will express their opinions but this is your quest now, to rise above and take your power back.
