Losing Yourself to Find Yourself: Navigating the Depths of Spiritual Growth
Who you are up until you begin to wake up and question the Self, is a variety of conditioned programs and conditionings that tell you who you are and how you should be living.
“The world will ask who you are, and if you do not know, the world will tell you.” Carl Jung
As you begin to question who you are and connect to your whole Self, the True Self, you begin to understand you are not the thoughts you have about yourself and the world, you are not the stories and you are not who you once told the world you were.
You are so much more than the conditioned mind. You are in fact an energetic being with an extremely powerful mind and psyche that is made up of many different facets. Within you there is a wise woman, within you there is a lover, within you there is a divine child, within you there is a creator. Within you there is unconditional love and there is a shadow self.
As you start to understand yourself on a more spiritual level it makes sense that you begin to find these parts of your soul and as you connect deeper, you will question who you are.
This is why you begin to feel like you have ‘lost yourself,’ because you are losing yourself. You’re losing the limited conditioned mind that you believed yourself to be up until now. You’re losing the connection with your carefully built persona (the mask you show to the world) that keeps you in a ‘safe’ box so you fit in, don’t challenge other people’s perceptions of reality and risk being rejected.
Once anybody begins to step into their infinite power we challenge the status quo, which makes a world of people living in ego (believing they are what society tells them they are, the conditioned mind) uncomfortable because unconsciously it asks them to question who they are too, and most people shy away from this.
It can be very uncomfortable for the ego to challenge the perception of who we thought we were. To the ego it can feel as though it’s dying, like it’s letting go of control, it will tell you it isn’t safe to ‘lose yourself.’ But this is your quest, to lose who you thought you were and become who you truly are.
Lean into the discomfort because on the other side of your shadow work, on the other side of your self-enquiry and deep meditation, is your True Potential. A connection with an infinite potential that can truly make a difference in this world.
When you connect to this power within, you will never feel a sense of ‘losing yourself’ or your identity again because you know, deep within, that you are so much more. That you are one with the infinite and eternal life force. You will feel an unshakeable knowing deep within that everything is perfect and that you are perfect.
You’re on a journey of spiritual growth and self-discovery for a reason, don’t limit yourself, allow yourself to explore the depths of who you are.
How to explore your true identity?
Shadow work - Shadow work helps you to integrate your whole Self, including the parts of you that you have unconsciously projected onto the world. When you can integrate your whole Self, you will realise you no longer need to ‘find yourself.’
Self-enquiry - Ask yourself and journal on questions to help you explore your truth. ‘Who am I?’ ‘Why am I here?’ ‘Where am I hiding from myself?’
Meditation - While in a state of meditation (present with yourself and the moment) you have an opportunity to connect to your true essence and understand what you are on a whole other level.
Active imagination - This is a type of exploratory meditation that helps you bridge the conscious and the subconscious mind, connecting to all aspects of your psyche. Here you can ask questions you need answers to and receive the guidance that you need, understanding who you are on a whole other level.
As you explore the True Self, your life will begin to change and you will begin to witness the magic that life has to offer, the world will appear to open for you.
