How to Find the Perfect Life Coach
Seeing athletes working with coaches & personal trainers has made this more ‘acceptable’ and popular for people to seek help in the area of their life they wish to improve. I doubt you’d even find a professional athlete today without a coach, a coach helps to push them that little bit further to get the extra few seconds off their PB or kick the ball over the posts that bit more accurately.
What Type of Life Coach Do I Need?
So, if you have found this blog post I suspect you are seeking to improve an area of your life and you are thinking about working with a coach, it’s also my guess that you don’t actually know where to start - which is understandable.
The coaching industry is unregulated and can be a bit of a minefield as coaches come up with all sorts of fancy names to make themselves stand out. How do you even find a coach that can help you? Let me explain…
As with any industry there are coaches who are excellent and there are coaches who are pretty standard, which is why I think it’s important to get clear on the results you’re seeking and the area of your life you wish to improve (such as your health, relationships or career/finance) then do your research and the right coach for you will become obvious!
Once you’re clear on the results you want in life (use this vision exercise to help) and the area which you need to work on most it’s time to do your research on the different coaches that could help you. Most coaches will offer to help you in a specific area of your life and most coaches will use different tools & philosophies to help you get there. Any effective coach will help you achieve results in that area of your life and you will see a ripple effect into the other areas of your life too.
Have a look at different people online, do a google search or even YouTube search. Having a look at a few different coaches on their social media platforms, reading their blogs will give you an idea of how they can help you and if you feel they can help you. Ultimately the decision will come from your gut instinct & intuition, which is why it’s important to let go of how you’re going to get the results you desire - the Universe will always give you what you need.
Below is a short insight into different types of coaches & how they can help you.
General Life Coach: A general life coach works with you on various aspects of your life, including personal development, goal setting, time management, motivation, and overall life satisfaction. They help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, set achievable goals, and create action plans to reach your full potential. Most coaches with a specific niche (like business or money) will probably also be trained as a ‘general’ life coach as well.
Career Coach: Career coaches focus on helping clients with their professional goals and aspirations. They assist with career exploration, job search strategies, interview preparation, resume writing, and career transition. Career coaches may also help clients identify their passions, talents, and values to align their careers accordingly.
Business Coach: Business coaches work with entrepreneurs and business owners to enhance their business skills and strategies in order to reach success. They help individuals develop leadership qualities, improve team dynamics, set and achieve business objectives, and overcome challenges in the business world.
Executive Coach: Executive coaches specialise in working with executives and high-level professionals within organizations. They focus on improving leadership skills, decision-making abilities, communication, and overall effectiveness in their roles.
It’s important when searching for any coach to check out a bit about their story, any success stories and client testimonials. Ultimately the work & results come down to you and your results are never a coach's responsibility but it’s always good to know the coach has a strong connection to the area which they’re coaching such as first hand experience and a strong reason why they chose that niche. A business coach having once run a successful business and wanting to help others do the same for example.
Wellness Coach: Wellness coaches assist clients in achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They work on areas such as nutrition, fitness, stress management, and overall well-being. Wellness coaches often provide guidance and support to help clients adopt healthier habits and overcome obstacles. A health or wellness coach is excellent for anyone suffering from burnout or recovering from a serious health condition such as cancer. (This was a route I explored when I was healing from cancer myself.)
Relationship Coach: Relationship coaches work with individuals and couples to improve their interpersonal relationships. They address issues like communication, conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, and enhancing emotional intimacy. You can also work with coaches specifically of ‘self-love’ when you need to improve your relationship with yourself. (Even though any form of coaching should help you do this.)
Sex Coach: A sex coach is a trained professional who helps individuals or couples navigate and improve their sexual lives and intimate relationships. They provide education, support, and guidance on various aspects of sexuality, including communication, sexual health, desires, and boundaries. Sex coaches help clients overcome challenges, build confidence and explore their sexuality in a non-judgmental and confidential setting, promoting a healthier, more fulfilling, and satisfying sexual experience. This is another excellent form of ‘self-love’ coaching.
Money Coach: Financial coaches help you manage your finances, develop budgets, and create plans to achieve financial success. They provide education and guidance on saving, investing, debt reduction, and building financial abundance.
One of my specialties is ‘wealth coaching’ and not only do we focus on all the above but we also focus on generating new income and overcoming subconscious blocks and limiting beliefs that are keeping you from being truly wealthy. Spiritual Coach: Spiritual coaches guide clients on matters of personal spirituality, self-discovery, and meaning in life. They may help individuals explore their beliefs, values, and purpose, supporting them in their spiritual journeys.
I am also a spiritual coach trained in different specialties such as Jungian Life Coaching and philosophies based on the teachings of the Vedas & Eastern Philosophy. For me personally as a certified Jungian & Spiritual Life coach my main goal is to help you access a new level of freedom in your life through self-discovery. I have first hand experience in overcoming serious health issues, business and money challenges and improving relationships with myself, romantic partners and family which has actually made it very difficult for me to go into a specific ‘niche’ with coaching. But what I find is that whether my clients come to me for spiritual growth or desiring financial success, we see improvements throughout their entire life - which any high quality coach will be able to help you achieve.
So, once you have done your research, follow your intuition as to who you wish to work with and make sure you are ready to make the financial and time investment in yourself. Investment in your personal growth & self-discovery will be the best investment you ever make & continue to pay dividends throughout your life.
